Amanda Shoemaker

People are only here for a short time. We don’t have expiration dates written on our sleeves and we don’t know when we are leaving. That’s the reason why treating other people kindly is so important. Cause sometimes those other people are all you have.
There were so many plaques sitting on the front of the stage tonight. At least 50 or maybe closer to 80. So many awards. MVP. Runner of the Year. Ones for all the school records set. Coach’s Awards for all the events. But I knew the Amanda Shoemaker was in one of those stakes. It’s the last award handed out and last year it went to one of the funniest and most inspirational people I have ever met. After about an hour and a half of handing out awards it comes down to this. And then you hear coach call out the first part of your name and then just a ton of screaming and clapping. You always wonder how you measure up in other people’s eyes. In comparison to all these four year athletes. All the people that made it to post season. The one’s with straight A’s. And that’s when the tears start rolling. Coach Evans wispers “take it to heart” in your ear as you hug him. Alia screams “you so deserve it Oh my gosh you don’t know how much you deserve it. Kelley’s mom walks up and congratulate you, and tells you how much Kelley’s little sister you coach high jump for was rooting for you. Maddie’s mom who yoy’ve never met before comes up and tells you that she has your socks. Coach Allie gives her input on how positive you always are. So does coach Nicole. And the best Matt tells you that you made him cry. Matt’s mom walks up and introduces herself. Oh my gosh. I am so scared to leave here. I am terrified that when I wake up tomorrow this will all have been a dream. I am still shaking.

You know all those little dreams you form in your head about your future relationship with the person you like? Well I always wonder what people think about me in that aspect. If they liked me, what kind of little dreams about me and them would go down in their head?
